Checklist Item: Document attendance at one Library/educational technology -related conference10/21/2013 Checklist Item: Attend one media/technology committee meeting with cooperating media specialist.10/8/2013 I was also able to attended a meeting at the county office with the high school media specialist, the technology team that supports the media centers and an Apple representative. The focus of this meeting was to discuss the issues that have developed since the county moved to a 1 to 1 iPad distribution for all high school students. The meeting was very informative and helped me to understand the added technical support and training responsibilities of the high school media specialist.
For this checklist item the LMS identified 5 books that needed to be cataloged. The process included laminating the book jackets, entering the items into the Follett's Destiny system, creating spine labels and barcodes, stamping and shelving the books. Below is a report that shows the barcodes that were entered into the system. After discussing with the middle school LMS what section of the collection would be most beneficial to inventory and weed, we decided on non-fiction 953-959. This section of the collection includes Middle Eastern and South East Asian countries. After completing the inventory for this section, the criteria that I used for weeding this section was based on the MUSTY process developed by the ALA for collection weeding. The MUSTY process includes, Misleading, Ugly, Superseded, Trivial, and Your Collection. This section included 221 titles. 52 titles were selected for weeding due to the Misleading criteria where copyright dates were ten years or more. Only books that were ten years or more and, duplicate titles or titles that are similar to the flagged title, will be removed. Below is a is the report showing the titles that were weeded. Checklist Item: Attend at least one grade/department/team meeting with cooperating media specialist.8/28/2013 None of the media specialist at the three schools where I performed practicum tasks attend grade or department team meetings. This week at the Elementary School, I discussed with the SML Specialist some of themes that the school would be promoting this year. I decided to concentrate on the school's enhanced classroom management incentive program. Each class will be categorized into 1 of 5 categories which includes Exceeding Expectations-Pink, Meeting Expectations - Green, Warning - Yellow, Loss of Privilege - Blue, and MES School Behavior Log - Red. I created a bulletin board to display the categories. It also tied into the literature lesson on the book Chrysanthemum. The display also included a QR code and link to the authors website.
